Desafío de Lectura Pura Belpré/Reading Challenge Pura Belpré

***This challenge consists in reading all the books awarded in this category (Pura Belpré, Latino). Feel free to join signing up at the end of this page. This is an excellent way to encourage reading over Summer time***

¿Qué mejor que pasar las vacaciones leyendo un buen libro? Para esto he recopilado información acerca del premio Pura Belpré que reconoce a los autores e ilustradores latinos en USA. A continuación, dejo algunos hechos importantes para tener en mente:

1. Este premio fue nombrado en honor a Pura Belpré quien fue la primera bibliotecaria latina en la biblioteca de NYC. 

3.Pura trabajo con nińos principalmente de Puerto Rico, preservando y enriqueciendo la cultura latina. 

4. El premio fue establecido el año 1996.

5. Cada año se reconoce a un autor e ilustrador latino que mejor represente, afirme y celebre la cultura latina a través de la literatura infantil.

El desafío

Confieso que esta idea surgió de  otro desafío de literatura infantil, pero que usa el premio Newbery el cual hace un reconocimiento a escritores americanos de literatura infantil. Si quieren participar, este es el enlace. 

Para celebrar la literatura infantil y la cultura latina he creado este desafío, el cual consiste en leer los libros que han sido galardonados con este premio a través del tiempo.

Condiciones:

• No hay una fecha de inicio o de término. 
• Sin estrés
• Puedes empezar con cualquiera de libros premiados, o bien, desde el primer libro que fue galardonado hasta el presente año.

Los videos de abajo nos dan más información. El segundo video muestra los libros premiados  desde el primer año. 

Por supuesto cada año se irán agregando más y más libros. Ya agregaré los que faltan.

Coco y Coca Tienen Miedo

I am happy to introduce my second creation, "Coco y Coca Tienen Miedo" (Coco and Coca are afraid). This is the second book I have published and I am very excited to tell you more about it. The first one was "Paquita la Alpaca" that has been reviewed and is also on SALE.

Coco and Coca are actually my two Doberman Pinscher, Coco and Chanel, who have many adventures to tell. If you are a dog owner, I am sure you have stories to tell as well.

When being a Doberman owner, I constantly face many challenges in walks with my dobies, such as prejudgement or preconception from other people about this breed. Especially because of movies or other rumors. However, as you may guess, "the rumor has it" is not always accurate and I wanted to use this book to show you why.

While writing the book I also realized that this issue also applies to people.  People are constantly judging each other, just because they "heard something",  drawing the wrong conclusions and closing the door of their hearts.  At the end, the "benefit of the doubt" is never there. And whether we like it or not, we teach with the example, this means all the kids around you will learn/repeat what you are doing or saying.  What are you teaching?

I wanted to make this book interactive, where the reader could participate in the story. This is why in the book the illustrator is also the reader. The pages have scenes and different objects from the story, however, the reader needs to add the main characters. To do this, the reader will have to use reading comprehension skills to understand what's he/she is reading.
